TITLE :TCP/IP Causes Time Wait States to Exceed Four Minutes
PRODUCT :Microsoft Windows NT
PROD/VER:4.00
OPER/SYS:WINDOWS
KEYWORDS:kbbug kbbug4.00 kbfix4.00 kbpatch NTSrv nttcp
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows NT Server version 4.0
- Microsoft Windows NT Server Enterprise Edition version 4.0
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
SYMPTOMS
========
There is a small time window in Afd.sys (the Microsoft Winsock2 service
provider for TDI transport) where it would not indicate data received
immediately after connection was accepted. This window should affect only
applications that use AcceptEx with buffer space for receiving data after
connection is accepted.
CAUSE
=====
In TCP/IP, timewait state queue management had a problem that caused time
wait states to exceed four minutes under stress.
RESOLUTION
==========
To resolve this problem, obtain the following fix or wait for the next
Windows NT service pack.
This fix should have the following time stamp:
12/11/97 12:16p 65,488 Afd.sys (Intel)
12/01/97 06:15p 147,632 Tcpip.sys (Intel)
11/21/97 06:41p 112,304 Afd.sys (Alpha)
11/26/97 04:13p 263,216 Tcpip.sys (Alpha)
